Nestled in Toronto’s charming High Park neighbourhood, this century home, for a family of four, underwent a transformative renovation.
Owned by two professional historians, the mandate was clear - increase functionality and beauty - without compromising on the home’s historic aesthetic and architectural integrity.
The goal was to retain and incorporate as many of the period details as possible, including the original millwork, stained glass windows, and 100 year old doorbell.
The kitchen and pantry areas received a full renovation, including a complete change in floor plan, windows, and doors, which allowed for a much needed improvement in functionality. A traditional toile was selected for the walls and drapery along with a classic checkerboard tile pattern for the flooring.
The powder room, front vestibule, dining room, and living room were also reimagined by Vanessa as part of the renovation.
In keeping with the Craftsman-style aesthetic, tiles, fixtures, fabrics and wallcoverings were selected to enhance the home’s vintage flavour and pay homage to the past.
